Pifeltro (doravirine) is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI). It is used for the treatment of HIV-1 infection.

Non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors are antiviral agents that bind non-competitively to HIV-1 reverse transcriptase and prevent viral RNA conversion to DNA. These drugs work by preventing HIV from multiplying in the body. NNRTIs are used in combination with other antiretroviral medicines.

Pifeltro is indicated for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 35 kg:

  • with no prior antiretroviral treatment history, OR
  • to replace the current antiretroviral regimen in those who are virologically suppressed (HIV-1 RNA less than 50 copies per mL) on a stable antiretroviral regimen with no history of treatment failure and no known substitutions associated with resistance to doravirine.

  • You should not take Biktarvy with dofetilide (Tikosyn), a drug used for heart rhythm disorders or rifampin (Rifadin), a medicine for tuberculosis (TB). These drugs are contraindicated with the use of Biktarvy.
