since Tramadol is addictive for some people does this also mean that this med can be abused and cause a high? was just driving this morning and this question came to mind. I've never used the stuff so i don't know the effects on euphoria (but i do know alot about how it works)

Hi Psychmajor all i can tell you is what tramadol does for me. I have really bad lower back pain that goes down my hips and into my legs! The pain is very bad but as long as i got my meds. to take i am great! i believe somone made the commit that it made them feel full of energy and a super mom that could go go and there was no stoping her! I feel the same way it makes me feel so... good! I am starting to get a little worried now i read some of these post and the risk factors that tramadol has. I might want to look into a chage of pain meds! thanks for reading. PiNkGiRl1983
Yes, absolutely I get a high from Tramadol. Me and my friend took them in South East Asia. He actually took them for 2 years straight (sadly addicted) in the middle east recreationally. They key, I have found, is to take 100mg on a half full stomach and then take a 50mg one hour and a half later after you start feeling the first one. I am literally high for 7-10 hours from this. I feel euphoria, relaxation, sometimes even the emotion of love (I don't know what triggers this sometimes and sometimes not) and some feelings that I would feel on a mushroom trip (minus any hallucinations). However, if you do them every day you definitely start building up a tolerance and I was up to 300mg in a night on a 2 week binge. To get optimal high, I find doing it once every one or two weeks lowers that tolerance and is probably a lot more healthy too haha. I know this little bit makes me sound like an addict lol, but its not the case.
I actually quite like the drug sparingly and marijuana can complement it nicely. I view it as a lot less abuse than a night of drinking would cause on your body. The brands I have tried are under the name "Dollas 100" and "Domodol".
First of all Yes you can get a high. If you were to take 4/50mg Tramadols you will get high. If you continue doing that you do get to the point of nodding out. I do not recommend this of course. I have severe chronic pain due to a bunch of stuff. I used to be on dilaudid and fentanyl patches. I was sick of being on that type of stuff and just went to tramadol. I have to say I like it better than oxycodone or hydrocodone. I have arthritis and it crazy! it like lubricated your joints it feels like. Usually I can never crack my nickles or any other joint in my body, but when I am on my pain medication everything is not stiff and adjusts so easy. Also I can stretch much better. I can sit and have my legs straight out and touch my head to my knees. few things to remember though., Because it raises your serotonin levels you need to be carefull especially if taking any other medications that raises serotonin because you can have a seizure.
also you can retain so much water so fast if abused. to the point of squeezing your leg and it indents. also SWIM was not absuing it but retained so much water that they poked a thin needle in their belly and barely any blood came out but mainly a clear liquid. (have pictures to prove that one). and also if you smoke cigarettes I must warn you that this will make you want to smoke one after another.
You don't want to mess with this highly addictive drug. I wouldn't say it causes a "high" as much as a kind of strong and healthy feeling. It very definitely has an antidepressant quality, but not really a 'high." Getting off of it has been sheer hell. I was on it for 12 years at 10 of the 50-mg tablets per day - 4 in the morning, 3 in the afternoon, and 3 at bedtime. I recently was unable to obtain it from any local doctor due to the fact that it recently has been made a controlled substance. I was forced to go nearly "cold turkey" with only 2 weeks to taper from 10 pills a day, to 8, to 6, to 4, to 2, then to nothing. I've never been sicker in my life. I was bed-bound for almost 5 days and only today feel well enough to be somewhat functional. Does it cause a high? Sort of. I never felt high, just very good and calm and capable of doing anything I wanted to physically.
The sleep was FANTASTIC, so good that I often set my alarm for 4:00 in the morning to take it and wait for that lovely drowsiness (10 too 15 minutes later), before falling blissfully back to sleep for a couple of hours. I think I'll always miss it. I hope I can hold out.
Dorothy2010... you are exactly right! I've been free of the demon tramadol since January... but I still miss it... sad:( I on the other hand, instead of waking at 4am to take it and go back to sleep, would take it and start cleaning, scrubbing, just making my house super clean! It DID make me feel like superwoman... the energy was sooo phenomenal. I too was sick in bed for DAYS after going cold turkey. It was a painful horrible withdrawal. I was on just about that same dose you were on. It was so bad coming off of it, that is the ONLY thing that keeps me from going back..
I understand completely. I've been of it completely now for almost 14 months and if I thought I could get a supply and not run out I'd be back on it in a second. I feel so sore and weak without it. I'm in the medical field and I've gone to doctors to ask for it for fibromyalgia, but no way. They will only give Lyrica for neurological (restless legs and that creepy bug-crawling sensation in my arms). The Lyrica works well for that, but I miss my all-purpose tramadol. The only thing that keeps me off it is the withdrawal. That was so bad. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I do miss the great relaxing deep sleep very much, and I feel like I haven't slept well since those last tramadol. Vicodin and Percocet did nothing for me at all. Good luck to you. I know exactly where you're coming from.
They gave it to me for fibromyalgia. Lyrica made me gain 15 pounds in four weeks. And I was dizzy all the time. I was using Butrans pain patch, and had vicodin for breakthrough pain. It helped. But nothing made me feel like tramadol. Scary to think how easy it'd be to get it. But so far, 9 months and counting, and yes, every day I count as a victory.
I have suffered from chronic pain for years now and i am only 23 years old, i had been on percocet but actually requested a drug that would give me less of a high because i do not want to be psychologically addicted to a drug my whole life. The major difference is that percocet will give you a feeling of euphoria while tramadol will give you a mood lift, these two things should not be confused. euphoria is best described as both a physically overwhelming sensation (like taking a hot bath after being outside in the winter) as well as a mental state of completely not caring. A mood lift is a simple feeling of going from "my day is crappy im in pain" to "my day is okay i dont feel that bad" or to "my day is good im pain free".
thats the best i can describe the difference
Hi psychmajor, good to hear from you. As I read down through the many posts and comments here, we seem to get confused between "high" and "addict"! Psych. if i'm reading you right , what you want to know is does tramadol cause "euphoria"/"High"! I personally wouldn't touch that question with a "ten foot pole"! The answers would be endless and would go on to infinity... yay... or... nay? [both of 'em... "chuckle"] I can offer only My experience, and this is NOT an opinion. Very first 3 tramadol worked , first4 worked ,after that... nothing. I went up to 600mg [nothing], then gave up. Sacosam
In regards to the Suboxone. Not sure when the question was asked but I was addicted to Hydrocodone (taking about 40-50 mg a day for 4 years) and went to Suboxone for help. It was GREAT for withdrawls and I got back on track very quickly. A lot of people thing its an alternative high but its not. It blocks the withdrawls so you can recover and refocus. Good luck
I wanted to knw where I can go to get sme suboxadone for my withdrawls I have been taking 6 or mre tabs daily and really need help, smeone else has told me about them.
Speaking from current right now experience yes. High very much so 100mg and it is hard to function. Don't like it at all don't take it
for me tramadol has been the least addictive to me id rather take that then vicodin because you get them mood swings comeing of vicodin i take tramadol for a auto immune disorder that causes my joints to swell and it has made me feel alot better and has gave me a better nights sleep i will not take vicodin anymore they had me on that for like a yr on and off and i was terriable with them i was addicted not to the point i could not get myself steady but enough where i had couple rough days without them my bodie hurt bad but so far tramadol has never did that to me so far in my opintion ites the least addictive because you really dont get the high people really want ites more of a steady high it wont let you get that high off of it but thats my last concern with it i personally asked for it knowing for me im less likely to get addicted to it only take 2 a day on a bad day 4 the most but usually only 2 50 mgs
I would say it totally depends on your personal chemisty. I know people who have taken it and had no relief/effects at all. I gave one to my wife because she was hurting badly and she could not function for two days. It all depends on your body, it effects different people differently. I personally have used the drug for its euphoric effects. I would not call it a high, more like a stupor. I do know it is an evil little pill that should be avoided at all costs.
All the way from Australia, I agree with Craig79792000 saying it depends on your personal chemistry. Tramadol doesn't seem to give me much relief - at 400mg SR daily, so I have stopped taking it. It certainly did not give me a "high". However, a friend was given 50mg capsules after surgery and she could not function properly after taking it.
hi psychmajor,by now your probably sorry u even asked this question. but i understand why u did. when we stop being curious our lives tend to stagnat. so this is my answer to ur question"if u take it by itself u don't feel any euphoria.if u take it in concert with another medication u may feel a slight high but i doubt it. to me anything that dulls or kills my pain is a high. when my suboxone startes to work on my pain i guess u might say its a high. not being in pain is all i hope for when i take a pill. so if it lets u feel no pain i guess thats a high in itself."... pete
Pete, yours is the most insightful comment I have come across.
I think a lot of people are confusing addiction with dependance in this forum.
I have been taking 900 Mg a day for the past 8 years or so and don't consider myself addicted. I may be dependant on it, but who cares? It is doing the job I want it to, and that is controlling the pain enough to allow me some degree of function and a decent quality of life.
I really wish the media would stop pushing the idea that any long term use of a narcotic is an addiction. They toss the word around for everything. I could care less if I am dependent on something and it gets rid of my pain. Now if I started taking way over the prescribed dose or started to do illegal things to get it, regardless of the consequence, then I'm addicted.
I am a huge fan of anything, pill, P.T., electrostim, Chiropractic, etc... that eliminates and/or alleviates pain!! I'm a person who lives with excrutiating tendanitus, carpel tunnel and back pain!! I have witnessed first hand the scare of a very dear person in my life, drop into a full blown seizure, caused by taking a bit too many Tramadol!! Their pain was not getting better so naturally, they pressumed, if 1 is good 2 or 3 has got to be better!! Wrong, take your meds as prescribed, or risk the dangers of the label. It is difficult to in constant pain, but the alternative is not worth it! Be rational & safe!
It does but defenitly not a good one in my opion, its more of a jittery my nerves are tore up high and they make most people so constipated that they cant stand it. I had a prescription to tramadol after being weaned from percocets because of a surgery. I am now in Suboxone detox on day 7 and wish that I never would have gotten a prescription of any sort.
Hi, i just posted a question asking for advice on suboxone..I am addicted to vicodin ES and I really need some advice as to what to expect from the suboxone the 1st day and so on... my appt is next week..thank u so much :)
When I was abusing opiates, although tramadol is considered a "synthetic" opiate, it was my pill of choice. I am an addict, in recovery now, but I didn't take anywhere near the reccommended dosage. Not only was I addicted to tramadol but the withdrawal is the same as coming off of heroin. Have experienced both. Be very careful. On tramadol I felt like super-woman, super-mom, etc. Got such speed and euphoria from them, nothing could stop me. Good luck to you and I hope I helped answer your question... YES, YES, YES!!
Hey, this response comes after reading some of the post. I never thought once when I read your question that you were fishing for info to get high. We are all curious to learn things from others about medicines and other issues we want to discuss. This was an honest question and with all due respect a good one. I take tramadol 100mg 3x a day for breakthrough pain. I have taken it for awhile ( it doesn't help my pain at all ). I knew one of the side effects was seizures but I had never heard of anyone having them until this post. I am also on Neurontin 2400mg a day and I know it has siezures precautions everywhere you read on the pamplet. Back to your question I have taken 200 mg at one time instead of the prescribed 100mg and I couldn't tell any difference at all. Call me an addict or whatever but when my pain is so intense in my legs from the neuropathy that I rub sores on the tops of my legs trying to releive the pain I wish I could take enough Tramadol to make me high.
Don't let any responses from this post keep you from asking any questions. Some of us know exactly where you are coming from and "some" never will...
I hate to burst your bubble, but those are not seizure warnings on the Neurontin. Neurontin or Gabaptin is an anti-seizure medication. It is prescribed for nerve pain as well. I had neck surgery and they tried it on me. It is also used for the relief of shingles pain which is a peripheral nerve pain but is not much fun. I did notice after taking neurontin and not having it work at all for my pain, that when I went off of my opiate based pain killers (vicodin, oxy) that taking neurontin helped with the withdrawls. Multiple surgeries and multiple times it has helped. Not sure why but it does. I have gone cold turkey and it is hell on earth. Neurontin or Gabaptin was a great help.
My huaband was prescribes tris drug and tris forum has made me concerned over hid taking it. should I ask his docs to put him back of percoset for pain or not?
Neurontin is primarily an anti seizure medicine as stated above. I feel that anyone looking for drug addvice should not rely on the words in these posts because the amount of misinformation outweighs any useful info. Becoming needlessly dependent on opiates and their synthetic cousins is something you should seriously avoid unless you need it for chronic pain. Also triggering siesure activity for the pursuit of a high is something you would regret. it's not worth it.
yea !
I am not a Doctor, so take this with a grain of salt. I have chronic low back pain, 13 months ago I detoxed off of 5 years of prescription pain medicine, I have taken every kind of pain medicine made. I personally had no trouble with driving, not being in control, no high affects, even after taking ten times the prescribed dose. Anything can become addictive, so please have someone keep a close eye on you, because the Doctors will not, and you will not notice an increase in pills, and an increase of drug strength. Din bror i Kristus, N.I.B.
I have taken tramadol and did nothing for me at all... it says its for moderate to severe pain, but, to be honest advil works better, never gave me a euphoria at all, but is addicting, physically especially, I can't take it anymore because had a seizure on it..yes, it can cause seizures in a small number of patients... just for FYI
When you say "taking ten times the prescribed dose", what were you actually taking ? ie how many milligrams a day?
Why I ask, is that I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia since 2001 and was put on Tramadol in 2003. At that time in Australia, the recommended dose was 700 Mg/day and I needed 900 Mg just to make the pain bearable, not take it away altogether.
Since then, the recommended dosage here has dropped to 400 Mg/day and I am still on 900 Mg and taking Iboprofen (called Nurofen here) for breakthrough pain as required.
I am seriously worried that I may be doing myself long term harm, but my Dr. says "If it works, stick with it" as going off it then starting up with something else may be worse.
I must add that taking Tramadol has been most beneficial for me, as I now have a better quality of life than I did before - even with all the side effects !!
I am a recovering alcoholic who was prescribed tramadol for chronic neck pain. First and foremost I have had about 8 seizures associated with alcohol withdrawl in the past so I don't think I should have been prescribed this. One stupid evening though I took 12 50mg tramadols looking for a high and the only thing I got was double-vision and drowsiness. No seizures thank God but I'll never do that again. Way too risky. And if anyone reading this is wondering if they can get high from tramadol: NO you can't, no euphoria what-so-ever!
this is very helpfull aswell as some other peoples answeres (i just dont really want to type the same thing 20 times... ). I was really curious about this and a personal experaince about actually abusing it is pretty imporant to the question!
I have said it before, but this drug affects different people in different ways. To say that it cannot give you a high is saying just that "it cannot give YOU a high". I know what it did to me and it was certainly a high. Sorry to rubuke you, but you are just dead wrong on this one.
Yes it CAN, absolutely do that. Thats what keeps people on it. Maybe you, as in one person, did not experience that, but yes, other people may have the opposite experience.
Cant get no euphoric effect from tramadol?
Well, LOL @ You!
Tramadol is different for everyone, like any other drug it has different effects on different people. For example, iv taken 7 vicodin 5-500mg tabelts at one time, and i did not feel shit, no pain relief, no euphoria nothing whatsoever. But when i take 4-5 50mg tramadol pills, in a matter of 20-30 minutes a warm breeze rushes through my body, my brains opens up and everything around me seems happy and cheerful, i become very happy and talkative, yes thats called EUPHORIA. I dont know what to call people like yourself that put tramadol down or any other drug just because they dont get no effects from them, should i called you selfish? stupid? or just plain dumb for misleading people?
Remember, every drug has different effects on different people, while for me tramadol has a cocaine like effect, for you it has nothing. I am sure there is many people who get high on tramadol like myself and im sure there is people that get no effect from it at all, like myself on the vicodin.
you shouldnt have been presribed tramadol to begin with, especially with a history of seizures.
I think your opinion is pretty damn irresponsible because Everyone reacts to certain meds differently. I know for a fact that ultram/tramadol when taken more than prescribed, can give a high level feeling of euphoria similar to the str
Tramadol causes serotonin seizures, but in the instance of someone who has had seizures I would sure be hesitant to take it, let alone too many. I agree on the no euphoria. Of course I've never taken more then prescribed.
How can you say no? Everyone is different. I get prescribed tramadol and i get high every single time. My boss gets high on tramadol and i know several people that abuse tramadol and get energy from them. They give me energy too. Tramadol and Ultrim give me energy... of course they can get you high. They are a controlled substance in some states.
I have been on Tramadol 300 mg twice daily with gabapentin 300 mg for four years .I take this for neuropthy .I have never had any side effects .But I know it is can cause seizures ,and this doe's concern me .
Sorry different strokes for different folks i am on a very low daily dosage and on an empty belly certainly do recieve a slight high that levels out after several hours ''great pill works well for my leg pain''thank you
Without saying anything about pleasant effects, I can say that Tramadol is definitely risky for addiction, and withdrawals from it are right on par with Vicodin. That's a hint for what it can do for some people like myself. There's an entire post dedicated to the evils of Tramodol on a similar website like this. It has seizure causing effects from too much, and dropping it cold turkey. I'm the dummy dealing with the soma issue now. I appreciated your response to me. If you'd like any other info. from experience about Tram-o-hell, let me know. Jeff.
Hi, I went through tramadol hell myself. Which is why the question sort of upset me. I know what its like to take too much, to have a seizure because of it, and to come off of it after taking it for a very long time and then going cold turkey. It IS hell. I would never want to be seen as encouraging anyone to take this drug. I have never had a problem with the "stronger" stuff, and I've taken percocet and vicodin plenty of times after surgery, and quit no problem. But for some reason, with tramadol, it got me. It makes you feel good and lies to you, and you get stuck. Thats what it is, a liar. And when you say ENOUGH, it does everything it can to make you stay on it. Its pure misery coming off that stuff.
in louisiana soma is a controlled substance now for about 6 months
Soma is controlled in all 50 states now.
